Major achievements of the Centre

First data paper published by ENVIS Centre on Avian Ecology

The BNHS’s ENVIS team published the first-ever peer-reviewed paper derived directly from a biodiversity metadata document in ZooKeys, an international open-access journal, in November 2011 in collaboration with Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Denmark and WII, Dehradun, India. The paper entitled, “Literature based species occurrence data of birds of North-East India”.

Great Indian Bustard Conservation Workshop through involvement of local people 

ENVIS Centre of BNHS organized a workshop on GIB conservation with support of Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) and the Forest Department, Wildlife (Pune), in Solapur on 3rd March 2011, where various issues regarding GIB conservation were discussed from various angles.Participants of the workshop included people from different fields including forest officials,local people, legal counsellors, security personnel and students

Bustard Forum 

The Centre launched a web-based “Bustard Forum” on www.bnhsenvis.nic.in under the supervision of Dr. Asad Rahmani, Project Coordinator, ENVIS Centre and Director, BNHS in July 2010. ENVIS team has collected all the available references on bustards from BNHS library, internet & through personal communication. News and sighting records of the bustards provided by observers have been posted in chronological order. It is open to all. In future, more of such interactive forums for threatened birds of India are being planned by the Centre.
