Android Applications Developed By BNHS-EIACP

Respected Madam/Sir,

The Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP), the Programme Centre (PC) and Resource Partner (RP) on Avian Ecology at the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS-EIACP) is happy to release a mobile application named 'AviEcoBase' for anyone who needs scientific references on the birds of India.

We have created this application, which will help the user search particulars of Indian birds included in the database which is maintained and updated on a regular basis. The app provides various filters that can be used for a systematic search. Through this app, we aim to help researchers, students, naturalists, scientists, and others to access a ready-made bibliography through their phones when the option of using a laptop for work isn’t available.

The application is available for free download on Google Play Store and the link for the same is as follows:

Respected Madam/Sir,

The Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP), the Programme Centre (PC) and Resource Partner (RP) on Avian Ecology at the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS-EIACP) has initiated the citizen science programme for the grassland bird survey. The objectives of the programme are to involve more and more people to observe the grassland birds where they visit regularly. There are several existing good initiatives where people are recording birds. We need to be able to accurately monitor trends for grassland birds. Consequently, we have launched the mobile application for data collection.

TThe mobile application allows the field researchers to add their observations and automatically generates the date/time and GPS coordinates. Traditionally researchers have been using printed datasheets followed by tedious job of manual data entry. To address this issue, scientists from the Bustard programme of the BNHS joined hands with BNHS-ENVIS RP and developed an app for study of grassland birds. This app will help in saving paper as well as time to enter the vast data collected during field surveys.

The application is available for free download on Google Play Store and the link for the same is as follows:
